Bookends to SummerSeptember 6th, 2010 | Posted by in Blog Posts
This Labor Day weekend, I went down to my friend Mike’s house in Brielle, NJ. It was really fun, a big Villanova reunion. The last time we were all there together was Memorial Day weekend, so it was like “bookends to summer“…kicking off and then closing out the season.
We spent a lot of time in the sun at the beach and “treasure island” (a little island you can swim too from his dock in the bay), and an equal amount of time eating, grilling and drinking. Went out to Bar A on Saturday, and Headliner on Sunday. Headliner was not quite my scene…straight Jersey Shore Fistpumping Music! Seriously, the music didn’t even have lyrics, just a beat…and fog lights and strobe lights. We had a lot of fun essentially making fools of ourselves and loving it.
Today we slept in, hung out at the beach and then drove back into the city a bit after 4. Hit very minimal traffic, which was quite surprising! Usually pretty bad on these big weekends.
Running was also pretty decent this weekend. Saturday was my day OFF (thank goodness!), Sunday I did 8 in the neighborhoods around Mike’s house and today I did 10 once I got back into the city. The weather was perfect this weekend, I felt great while running! Nice change not dripping in sweat post-run.
While I’m sad to bid farewell to summer, and I’m still amazed by how quickly it passed… I am looking forward to fall. I love it when the leaves begin to change and the air turns a little crisp. And I cannot wait for it to be just cool enough to wear boots and a cute cardigan! Ahhhh. Channeling tastes of pumpkin, cinnamon and apple spices!
Well, back to laying in bed and watching part 2 of the Real Housewives of NJ reunion! Lovely 3 day weekend.
